Jude Barton

"My paintings are not about what is seen. They are about what is known forever in the mind". ~ Agnes Martin

The Artist:

Barton received her BFA from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 1999 with an
emphasis in sculpture. While at Metro State, Barton developed a love of art theory and
criticism under the tutelage of Professor Sally Everett and still refers to her text “Art Theory and Criticism” as a source of clarity about art, art movements, and meaning in her own work. She is a former member of Core Art Space and currently exhibits at 931 Gallery and, as an active member of the Denver art community, has curated several invitational shows including The Architecture of Form, Synchronicity, and Point Line and Plane: Works on Paper.
Born in 1953 in Akron, Ohio, Barton was raised in a vibrant blue-collar community with six siblings. Her love of geometry and drawing was stimulated and nurtured throughout her
pursuit of a vocational drafting curriculum in high school. After moving to Colorado in 1976 she studied horticulture and garden design. During her early years of parenting her two sons, she developed a small private practice of landscape and garden design. Her involvement with garden and landscape design would later lead to her pursuit of a degree in sculpture and art history
