Congratuations to Julie Jablonski, who recently completed her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Art Practice from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Julie's thesis show was positively reviewed by the prestigious international contemporary art magazine, Hyperallergic. You can read the review here.

Darren Henkel offers Alternative Printmaking Workshop: How to Transfer Images to Wood, Metal, and Glass

Alternative printmaking techniques offer a unique way to merge digital imagery with raw, organic materials beyond standard paper.

At 2DH Gallery in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, artists can dive deep into this creative process, with owner Darren Henkel, through a hands-on Introduction to Pigment Transfer workshop. This session breaks down the process behind solvent-based emulsion transfers.

Colorado Dragon Boat Festival (Dan Root)

Sloan's Lake park in Edgewater

August 29-30. This will be the fourth consecutive year Root has exhibited at this festival.

Root will be presenting an exhibition of black and white photographs taken in Thailand, featuring Bangkok and the ancient city of Ayutthaya. The temples of Bangkok are filled with images of the Buddha and sculptures depicting Chinese guards and other characters. Figures from two temples are depicted in the exhibition, Wat Arun and Wat Pho. Tuk-tuks, the iconic auto-rickshaws, feature heavily in Bangkok's frenetic traffic, shuttling tourists and locals alike. Along with being a great subject for pictures, taking one for a ride is an essential part of a visit to the city. Just over 60 kilometers north of Bangkok lies the ancient Thai capital of Ayutthaya. At the center of this 13th-century city lie acres of temple ruins and remains of stone Buddha images. This historical park has been preserved as a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1991.

Root prints his images by-hand in his traditional darkroom, from 35mm and 120mm vintage film cameras. All images are printed on archival materials. In addition to the Thai imagery, Dan will also present a selection of works from his last few shows at Pirate: Contemporary Art.
